How do I charge my Electric Vehicle (EV) rental?

The general principle of charging your EV rental is the same everywhere. Simply take your charging cable and connect your car to a power source. However, there are a couple of things to consider:

1. The plug type

2. The charging mode

Plug Type:

Depending on your location (North America, Japan/Korea, Europe or China), you will generally encounter two types of plugs- one for regular charging (Alternate Current, AC) and one for quick/rapid charging (Direct Current, DC).

North America

AC charger: Type 1

DC charger: CCS1

Europe

AC charger: Type 2

DC charger: CCS2

Japan/Korea

AC charger: Type 1

DC charger: CHAdeMO

China

AC charger: GB/T

DC charger: GB/T

Charging Mode:

Charging modes refer to the source you are using for charging. There are four modes you should be aware of:

- Mode 2: AC charging from a regular power socket (e.g., in your house) with a separate cable.

- Mode 3b: AC charging from a charging station with a separate cable.

- Mode 3c: AC charging from a charging station with a fixed cable from the charging station.

- Mode 4:  DC charging from a charging station with a fixed cable from the charging station.
